In cooperation with international structures, financial institutions, and local partners, Julius Berger International contributed experience and experience towards reconstruction.

After the devastating flood disaster in July 2021, the municipalities faced a once-in-a-century challenge of reconstruction. Commissioned by several public sector clients, Julius Berger International has since supported reconstruction efforts with a holistic, interdisciplinary project management approach – structured, efficient, and transparent.

Multi-Project Management

Reconstruction in the Ahr Valley comprises around 1, work packages, totaling over €3 billion. The scope ranges from measures to address destroyed infrastructure such as roads, bridges, administrative buildings, and schools to highly complex new planning for flood protection, sustainable energy supply, and digital infrastructure.

Across several of the affected municipalities, Julius Berger International has been tasked with total responsibility for project steering. As the central contact point for authorities, planning offices, contractors, and funding bodies, the company coordinates all processes – from the initial damage assessment to operative implementation support.

Dr.-Ing. Björn Banholzer Geschäftsführer (CEO)

Dr. Björn Banholzer wurde 1971 in Essen geboren und studierte Bauingenieurwesen an der RWTH Aachen, wo er 2005 auch promovierte. Zudem erwarb er einen MSc im Bereich “Concrete Structures” am Imperial College London. Dr. Banholzer begann seine berufliche Laufbahn 1997 bei Schießl Raupach Consulting Engineering. Seine Karriere in der Julius Berger Gruppe startete, als er im Jahr 2005 in Wiesbaden die Position als Technischer Projektleiter antrat und in den darauffolgenden Jahren auch bei der Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. in der Bauleitung und später als stellvertretender Projektleiter und Innendienstleiter aktiv war. Seit 2012 bekleidete er verschiedene Führungspositionen in Wiesbaden, darunter die Leitung des Bereichs Projektmanagement. 2021 übernahm er als Bereichsleiter die Gesamtverantwortung für die Objekt- und Fachplanung und begleitete in dieser Funktion die strategische Weiterentwicklung des Unternehmens. Im Oktober 2024 wurde Dr. Banholzer zum Vorsitzenden der Geschäftsführung der Julius Berger International GmbH ernannt. Weiterhin ist er seit vielen Jahren als Lehrbeauftragter an der Hochschule RheinMain tätig.
